Hey everyone, I’m thrilled to share my recent adventure with Z-Wave switches!
I’ve just taken the plunge into home automation, and it’s been quite the learning curve. Let me walk you through my experience so far.A few weeks ago, I decided to upgrade my kitchen lighting setup. I wanted to split my three ceiling lights into two groups—one controlled by an on/off switch and the other by a dimmer switch. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, it turned out to be a bit more complex than I anticipated.I chose the Aeotec Nano switches for their sleek design and Z-Wave compatibility. The wiring configuration in my kitchen was a bit tricky since the power was fed directly into the switch box. After some research, I decided to wire the switches inline with the lights and install new switches in the switch box without connecting them to a load. This way, the switches would act as wireless controls for the lights. Here’s where things got interesting. I wanted the on/off switch to toggle the Nano Switch and the dimmer switch to control the Nano Dimmer switch. I knew this would require some smart configuration in Home Assistant, but I wasn’t exactly sure how to set it up. After some trial and error, I managed to get everything working smoothly!I learned a few valuable lessons along the way. First, always double-check your wiring to ensure there are no unintended connections. Second, take your time when setting up the switches in Home Assistant—accuracy is key! And finally, don’t hesitate to reach out to the community for help. The support I received here was invaluable. If anyone has similar questions or needs advice, feel free to ask. I’m happy to share what I’ve learned! ![]()
