I’m really excited to dive into the world of smart home automation, but I’m still getting the hang of it. I’ve been reading through a lot of documentation and guides, but I’m hitting a bit of a roadblock with my Zigbee motion sensor setup. Let me walk through what I’ve done so far and where I’m stuck.
First off, I’ve successfully set up my Zigbee gateway and have a couple of temperature and humidity sensors working perfectly. The data is showing up in my sitemap, and everything seems to be running smoothly. But when I tried adding a motion sensor (Sensor ID 10), things didn’t go as planned.
I followed the same process as I did for the other sensors. I created an item in my demo.items file:
Contact BasementMot01 “Motion”
And I expected it to work just like the temperature and humidity sensors. But here’s where I’m confused: how does the system take the input from the gateway and populate this motion item? I see the events log showing data from the sensor, but I’m not sure how that translates into the item being updated. Is there a specific configuration I’m missing?
I tried restarting the gateway and even did a factory reset on the motion sensor, but nothing changed. The sitemap still doesn’t reflect the motion data. I’m starting to wonder if there’s something fundamental about how Zigbee devices communicate that I’m not grasping.
Has anyone else faced a similar issue? I’d really appreciate any guidance or resources that could help me get this working. I’m eager to get my motion sensor up and running to complete my smart home setup!
