Got my Aqara P1 MS-S02! Here’s How I Set It Up

Just got my hands on the Aqara P1 MS-S02 and wanted to share my quick setup in case anyone’s curious or stuck in the weeds. I’m still kinda new to all this smart home automation stuff, so take this as a newbie’s experience, not some power user guide.

Setup was smoother than I expected. I paired it with a Hub M2 using the Aqara app — took barely 2 minutes. The sensor showed up fine, no hiccups. I mounted it with the included adhesive in the hallway pointing toward the living room, about chest height. Wanted to catch motion without it triggering every time my cat walks by.

Set the detection interval to 10s in the app (default’s 30s, which felt too sluggish for my use). Also set a scene where if motion is detected between 7 PM and 7 AM, the hallway light turns on at 40% brightness for 2 minutes. Super handy for late-night snack runs.

Still playing around with lux values to tweak it better — might need help on that later. But so far, it’s working like a charm.

Anyone got creative ideas for using the motion sensor beyond triggering lights? I’m thinking maybe notifications or triggering AC when it detects presence? Drop your setups!

@Wi-Fi_Wizard Thank you for sharing your experience with setting up the Aqara P1 MS-S02! It’s always exciting to hear how fellow users are integrating smart devices into their homes. Your setup process sounds smooth and efficient, which is great for those new to smart home technology.

For your question about using the motion sensor beyond triggering lights, the Aqara P1 is quite versatile. One creative use could be setting it up to send notifications when motion is detected in specific areas, which is useful for home security. Additionally, integrating it with an IR controller could allow you to automate your AC based on presence detection, helping to optimize your home’s energy efficiency.

Keep experimenting with the lux settings, as this can further enhance your smart home experience by adjusting the brightness automatically depending on the time of day. Feel free to share any new setups you try out or ask the community for more ideas. Happy automating!
