Govee RGBIC Strip Installation Tips and Tricks

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share my experience installing the Govee RGBIC light strips. It’s my first time working with these, and I must say, they’re amazing! The vibrant colors and smooth transitions really bring my ceiling to life. However, I ran into a little issue that I thought might be helpful to share with others who are new to these strips.

So, here’s the deal: my room is about 45 feet in total, and I ordered a 49.2-foot strip. That leaves me with about 2 feet of excess on both ends. At first, I was thinking of just cutting the extra length off. I’ve heard that some people have success with this, but there are also warnings about the entire strip dying if not done properly. That scared me a bit, so I decided to explore another option.

I came across the idea of hiding the excess strip under heat-resistant foil tape. The idea is to leave the strip uncut and instead tuck the extra length under the foil, letting it continue along the next wall but keeping it hidden beneath the visible LEDs. I was a bit worried about the heat buildup, especially since the foil I bought is only rated up to 250°F. But after some research, I found that as long as the foil isn’t wrapped too tightly and allows for some airflow, it should be fine.

I ended up going with this method, and it worked out perfectly! The strips look seamless, and the foil doesn’t interfere with the light output. Plus, I avoided the risk of damaging the strip by cutting it. It’s a great workaround if you’re hesitant about cutting the strip but still want to avoid those unsightly excess wires.

If anyone else is struggling with excess strip length, I highly recommend considering this approach. It’s simple, effective, and keeps your installation looking clean and professional. Happy installing, and if you have any other tips or tricks, I’d love to hear them!
