I wanted to share my recent experience setting up Govee smart lights and integrating them with a Mystrom button for a seamless automation setup. It’s been a fantastic journey, and I’m excited to walk you through it!
The Setup Journey
I’ve always been a fan of Govee products, and their smart lights were no exception. The packaging was top-notch, and the design was sleek and durable. Installation was a breeze—just 15 minutes, and they were up and running! The app functionality is outstanding, with tons of scenes, DIY modes, and music modes. Plus, the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi control integration with Alexa has made my life so much easier.
The Mystrom Button Integration
To take things a step further, I decided to integrate my Govee lights with a Mystrom button. This button has become my go-to for quick, hands-free control. I upgraded the button firmware to 2.74.31, which added support for plain/text and JSON content types, enabling it to communicate directly with my OpenHAB setup.
The Rule Setup
Here’s how I set it up:
- Short Press: Toggles the living room lights.
- Long Press: Toggles the kitchen lights.
- Double Press: Turns off all lights in both rooms.
The button’s virtual items in OpenHAB reset after a second with the expire binding, ensuring smooth operation. I used cURL commands to configure the button, mapping each press to the corresponding Govee light commands. It’s been a game-changer for my daily routine!
The Result
This integration has transformed my home into a truly smart space. I can now control my lights effortlessly, whether I’m lounging on the couch or cooking in the kitchen. The combination of Govee’s reliability and Mystrom’s versatility has exceeded my expectations.
A Tip for Others
If you’re looking to integrate similar devices, I recommend ensuring your firmware is up-to-date and double-checking your network settings for a stable connection. The process is straightforward, and the payoff is immense!
