H2 EU double rocker (WS-K08E): Multipress + Zigbee OTA

Device: Aqara Light Switch H2 EU, double rocker (WS-K08E)

Firmware: Zigbee fileVersion 5658

Setup: Paired directly over Zigbee to a third-party coordinator (no Aqara

hub). Both gangs in decoupled mode, relays locked on.

Hi all β€” two related things about the H2 EU double rocker. Hoping for input from

Aqara staff, and curious whether other H2 owners see the same.

1. Upper rocker halves never send multi-press events

The two lower halves work perfectly and emit the full set of events: single,

double, hold and release. Holding one gives the expected pair:

hold_left_down -> release_left_down (held ~3s)

hold_right_down -> release_right_down (held ~7s)

The two upper halves only ever emit a single-press event, no matter how long

they are held:

single_left

single_right

No hold. No release. No double. I tested this across dozens of presses on both

upper halves at hold durations from under a second to roughly ten seconds. Not

one multi-press event was produced.

This appears to contradict the product documentation, which advertises

multi-press actions on the upper buttons.

2. The multi-click setting only exists for the lower halves

The device exposes a multi-click mode toggle for the lower halves only:

multi_click_left_down

multi_click_right_down

There is no equivalent for the upper halves. This is the part that makes me

think it is a firmware gate rather than a radio or pairing problem:

  • With those two settings enabled, the lower halves emit hold/release

correctly.

  • With them disabled, the lower halves stop emitting hold/release entirely β€”

every long press arrives as a plain single press, exactly the behaviour the

upper halves show permanently.

So the multi-press state machine is clearly gated by this setting, and the upper

halves behave precisely as if that gate exists but is permanently off β€” or was

never implemented for those endpoints.

Questions:

  1. Is multi-press on the upper halves supported by the WS-K08E hardware at all?

  2. If yes, which firmware version enables it, and is there an attribute

equivalent to multi_click_*_down for the upper halves that needs setting?

  1. If no, is it on the roadmap? And could the documentation be corrected in the

meantime, since it currently advertises the feature?

3. Firmware updates over standard Zigbee OTA

Related, and the reason I cannot simply test a newer firmware: as far as I can

tell there is no way to update this switch without an Aqara hub. The switch

reports fileVersion 5658 and no newer image is available through standard Zigbee

OTA channels β€” the widely used community OTA index has no entry for WS-K08E at

all, so a third-party coordinator has nothing to offer the device.

That leaves owners who run the H2 on a non-Aqara coordinator with no upgrade

path whatsoever. Unpairing, joining an Aqara hub, updating and re-pairing is

disruptive and means losing the device configuration.

Request: would Aqara consider publishing H2 firmware images for standard

Zigbee OTA, so devices paired to third-party coordinators can update normally?

Many other Zigbee vendors do this and it is a real differentiator for anyone

choosing hardware for a non-vendor-locked setup.

Question: is firmware newer than build 5658 available for the WS-K08E, and

does any released version change the upper-half button behaviour above?

Why this matters practically

With hold available on only one half per gang, there is a single hold-capable

button per light. Hold-to-dim has to drive both directions from that one button

β€” workable, but clearly not the intended design given the documentation. Full

multi-press on all four halves would make this switch substantially better.

Has anyone else with an H2 double rocker confirmed the same upper-half

behaviour, or found a firmware version where it works? Thanks.
