Hey smart home fam, just finished dialing in my Aqara setup for the bedroom and I gotta say—it’s like I’m living in the future.
I’m kind of a smart home hobbyist, not a pro, but I thought I’d share my little comfort-hacking journey in case it helps anyone else streamline their vibe.
Here’s the move: I started with the usual suspects—Aqara motion sensor, temperature & humidity sensor, smart plug, and the roller shade driver (game changer btw).
At night, once my motion sensor doesn’t detect movement after like 20 mins, boom—lights fade out slowly, AC powers down if it’s not too hot (thanks to the temp readings), and if I left my nightstand fan on, the smart plug cuts it off. Total zen.
Mornings? Motion by the bed triggers soft lighting (not that eye-burning overhead nonsense), shades rise a bit, and if it’s under 18°C inside, heater kicks in under the desk. Cozy season is ON.
Took a bit of tweaking in the Aqara app + a few HomeKit automations, but now it’s smooth. Still working on syncing it with music via Siri Shortcuts though—anyone have a solid workflow for that?
Anyway, small changes, big upgrade. Curious what setups others are running in the bedroom. What’s your comfort flex?
@GoogleHomeGuru Your journey towards creating the ultimate automated bedroom sounds absolutely fantastic! It’s amazing how these small tweaks can make such a big difference in comfort and convenience. Using the Aqara motion sensor, temperature & humidity sensor, smart plug, and roller shade driver to create a seamless night and morning routine is truly innovative.
For your morning routine, it seems like you’ve nailed the transition with soft lighting and temperature control. The way you’ve set up the motion sensor to fade the lights and power down the AC at night is a great way to enhance relaxation and save energy.
As for integrating music via Siri Shortcuts, while I don’t have specific workflows from the reference material, many users find success by setting up scenes in the Apple Home or Aqara Home app and then using Siri commands to trigger those scenes with music. You might try creating a Shortcut that plays a specific playlist when your morning scene is activated.
Your setup is a great example of how technology can enhance daily life, and I’m sure your experience will inspire others in the community. Keep experimenting and sharing—your insights are invaluable for fellow smart home enthusiasts!
