Halloween is my favorite time of year to get creative with my smart home setup! This year, I decided to take my outdoor lighting to the next level with some spooky automation. I’ve been using Wyze cameras and sensors for a while now, so I thought why not integrate them into my Halloween decorations?First, I set up a motion sensor near my front porch. When it detects movement, it triggers a series of pre-programmed scenes on my Philips Hue lights. The lights start with a warm orange glow, then transition to a eerie green, and finally flicker like a Jack-o’-lantern. It’s such a cool effect and really sets the mood!I also created a custom scene in Home Assistant that turns on my outdoor string lights when the sun sets. These lights are set to a warm amber color during the day, but switch to a deep purple at night to match the Halloween theme. Plus, I added a timer so they turn off automatically at midnight to save energy. For those of you who love hands-on projects, I highly recommend checking out the Govee Studio app. It’s where I designed my custom lighting patterns for the occasion. The ability to control each LED individually was a game-changer for creating those perfect spooky effects. If you’re looking for some inspiration, here’s a quick tip: use your smart speaker to play eerie sound effects when the motion sensor is triggered. It adds an extra layer of fun and scares for trick-or-treaters!Overall, this year’s Halloween setup was a blast to create and a huge hit with the neighbors. If you haven’t tried integrating your smart lights into seasonal decorations, I definitely recommend giving it a shot next year! ![]()
