Harnessing Solar Energy for Home Heating

Hello fellow enthusiasts, I wanted to share my recent success in integrating solar energy into my home heating system. After installing a PV system, I’ve been exploring ways to maximize its benefits, particularly in powering my heating elements.

My setup involves a warm water boiler with a heating element that can be activated by my heat pump. Currently, I’m using a combination of ABB ESB 24-40 circuit breakers and Eberle Boilerrelais SPR 49070 to manage the system. The goal is to run the heating element exclusively on surplus solar energy, which would significantly reduce my carbon footprint and energy costs.

I’ve been considering two main approaches: replacing the Eberle Relais with a Shelly 1 to control the ABB circuit breaker via EVCC, or switching the ABB circuit breaker itself with a Shelly 3EM to directly manage the heating element. Both options seem viable, but I’m curious to hear which method others have found more effective or reliable.

Has anyone successfully integrated solar energy into their heating systems? I’d love to hear about your setups, challenges, and tips for optimizing such a system. Let’s collaborate to make our homes greener and more efficient! :sun_with_face:
