I bought a G100 camera and got that working fine. A few days later I decided to buy a G410 doorbell. The setup was OK. I run an Apple environment, so iPhone, iPad and iMac. It took much struggle to get the G410 to display in the Aqara “common board” on Pad and Mac but I got there. I then had a similar struggle to get it to show in Home. I thought I was winning. No.
They are both using microSD cards and not any cloud, though the G100 backs up to NAS. I wanted to check the Video Event History, Now, when I try and check either, I only get the G410 video history, even when checking the G100. When I try and download an event, I’m told it failed. Sometimes there is a suggestion to switch network to “fluency”. I have no idea what that means. To top it off, the Aqara app on Mac regularly crashes after a few attempts.
The firmware is all up to date, as are the OSs on devices. Things have been turned off/on.
I can live with occasional crashes on Mac but am baffled as to why I can only see one event save list and why I am unable to download. I’m out of ideas. Is anyone able to help?
I’ve still not had it notify me on my iPhone when an event occurs. In the Aqara app, Notification Type is set to Event Notifications Notification Preferences - the two switches were off so I turned on Schedule - no change.
In iPhone settings Apps > Aqara Home > Allow is on as is Critical, Sounds, Badges and Preview but still nothing when the bell is rung.
I’ve never had such a struggle to get smart tech working before. The only thing I’ve sorted is clip download which failed as it did not have access to Photos but otherwise, I still can’t see local microSD files for both systems. It looks like the unwanted HomeGuardian is interfering and messing up, unless someone knows differently.
Do I have to return the doorbell? Does anyone from Aqara tech department check messages here?
I had a thought that having three instances of the Aqara app on the go may be not a good idea. I deleted from the iMac and iPad and I now get iPhone notifications. I can view the last recordings via the Playback if I hav ethe “floppy disk” clicked but can’t download anything from there. There is nothing under Video Event History for either camera.
The notification to the iPhone, when tapped, shows the feed but I don’t seem to be able to interact. I’ll look harder at that tomorrow. It must work somehow.
I’ll try to help but you mentioned a lot of different stuff going on.
I don’t recommend using the Aqara app on the Mac or iPad. The app does not sync across all your devices, they act independent of each other and it will drive you crazy with all the different settings, layouts and customizations. Each app is independent of each other.
This confuses me all the time too, there still seems to be translation issues from time to time in the Aqara app. The fluency wording is letting you know your network is not performing very good and switching to lower resolution may help smooth the video feed for better video.
Aqara notifications: In the Aqara app navigate to the bottom right of the screen, select Profile-Settings-Push Notifications. Notification Message Settings. Go through those to make sure you have everything you need selected.
Apple Home App Notifications: Navigate to the Camera, open the feed and at the top select the “cog wheel” icon. Toggle On “Add to Home View” scroll down to “Status and Notifications” and select all the settings you need. Also while in the area be sure any of the other settings you need are selected correctly.
This is normal unless I’m miss understand you? The Apple Home App does however show a short video rather than a thumbnail picture. This also depends on your network. If the network is poor it won’t play any video it will default to a thumbnail picture of the event.
I did suss out that one Aqara app is the way. Eventually. It wasn’t obvious.
I checked the Notifications a you suggested and will try it tomorrow when it isn’t dark and cold and we are forecast extreme rain so it won’t be the morning.
The Apple Home shows both camera feeds. I dropped the doorbell and added it. Sometimes simple things fix matters. Time will tell.
Again - bad weather tomorrow so I’ll be playing when it dries up (maybe Tuesday).
After I removed the iPad and Mac Aqara app, I started getting videos pop up on my Watch from the G100 camera every time a car passed. I stopped that, but it would be a neat thing if the doorbell was pressed.
I’ll report back when I’ve had a chance to “play”.
An update. The doorbell now shows me on my Watch if someone approaches the door (aha - postman), When it is rung, I do get an alert on iPhone and Watch, so I’m guessing it is working. What I can’t yet tell is whether the HomePods are rining because I can’t hear them from the front door and nobody has rung yet.
Just two concerns now. Should there be a light around the button and illuminating the bell symbol? How may I download event videos from the doorbell? There is still nothing in the Video Event History. I’m guessing that is Aqara’s cloud, which I don’t wish to use. I can Playback events, which I assume are on the microSD but they may only be streamed, not saved off.
In my mind, the light thing is the last one. I don’t really need to d/l videos and they are set for loop recording so are not to be archived.
In the Apple Home app open the camera feed select the Cog Wheel icon again navigate to “Camera Status Light” turn it off and it will no longer show on the doorbell.
To download any video while in the Home app looking at the feed at the bottom use the video scrubber along the bottom and select the section to export/share and tap the share icon (Botton left) then tap next (top right) and go from there according to your needs.
Keep in mind you musty have the correct Apple iCloud Storage, Free account is 1 or 2 cameras, 200GB plan is like 5 cameras? and 2TB is unlimited cameras etc. I forget the exact details but I’m close.
As for the Aqara app you need to have the memory card installed for any saved video options or paying for the subscription plan. OR utilizing a NAS which if you’re using a NAS I’m guessing you already know all this and I’m not helping by replying to this thread
There is no Cog Wheel in my app but there is top right … > Device settings > Doorbell settings > Turn off the indicator light which is in the deselected position, so indicator lights should be on for the camera and chime. The chime is showing blue but the bell push is dark. Having said that, I just checked now as it is getting dark and the light came on after a few seconds from me being detected (a quick white light then blue) so i’m thinking now that it is doing the job. Thanks for making me check again.
In the Playback option, there is no video scrubber (I know what you mean as I’ve seen it mentioned in posts on other sites about the G4). I just have a vertical time lime that scrolls through recorded events and nothing may be selected. I do have Apple One Family so there is a chunk of iCloud but I don’t want to use it. I had hoped the files on the microSD would suffice. As it is battery powered, I can’t use my NAS, unlike the G100 camera which seems to dump bucket loads. Maybe there are different versions of the Aqara app but I’d be surprised if that was the case.
I guess “case closed” and I can always come back if something goes awry. Thanks sr177411 (not your real name )
Today I found that the option to backup to NAS was now available. It wasn’t before. That seems to be working well so I can get the clips from there. It is set to delete after seven days. I don’t want to be “spying”.
Something unconnected, when I set up the doorbell for the second time, it made a second device in Home. I deleted that.
Seems to be all good now Case closed. I’ll come back if something happens.
