Higher camera resolution in HomeKit

Does anyone know if 2k - 4k resolution is to be made available in the Apple platforms.

HomeKit only supports 1080p, hopefully they will say something when they have next keynote in September. Would be nice with 4K og minimum 2K

HomeKit only supports 1080p. Please note that if you integrate a 2K camera, such as Aqara, into HK, the Aqara app will also only display 1080p. The full resolution can only be achieved WITHOUT integrating it into another ecosystem.

I don’t think it’s something to come in the near future. While Apple is reportedly expanding its smarthome lineup -with plans for its own branded security cameras and a smart home hub (possibly under “homeOS”) later in 2025 or early 2026- there’s no indication so far that these will support either 2K HSV recording. Probably this limitation is driven by storage and bandwidth concerns tied to iCloud on one hand, on the other hand by integration issues into Apple’s entire ecosystem. I wish I could watch 4K live feed on my AWU, but that’s not the case

Probably the new HomeOs will solve it.

I think it’s on the way. There were reports on the HomeKit reddit that certain non-native HomeKit cameras via scrypted were suddenly outputting a higher resolution via HKSV.

One can hope they’ll update it. Might be due to HomeKit secure video using their storage to record videos. 4K or even 2K would take up more space than the 1080p recordings.

Any ETA or details on this anywhere

Welcome to the forum! As everyone has said, HomeKit only supports 1080p. Anything else is just speculation.
