I’ve been diving into the world of home automation for a while now, and I’m thrilled to share my journey with you! 
After experimenting with various setups, I finally landed on Home Assistant as my go-to platform. It’s been an incredible learning experience, especially when it comes to setting up automations. The Challenge
I have over 50 smart devices, mostly from Tuya and TP-Link, along with a few Google Nest products. Keeping everything in sync and ensuring smooth operation was no small task. My initial setup on a Raspberry Pi was hit or miss, and moving to a Windows PC with VirtualBox didn’t solve all my problems. Crashes were frequent, and I was constantly tweaking settings to keep everything running smoothly.
The Solution
After some research and experimentation, I decided to upgrade my hardware. I now run Home Assistant on a dedicated Mini PC, which has made a world of difference. The system is more stable, and I’ve been able to integrate all my devices without any hiccups. Plus, the ability to run both Home Assistant and Plex Media Server on the same machine has been a game-changer for my media consumption and home automation needs.
Automation Success
One of my proudest achievements has been setting up automations that truly make my life easier. For instance, I’ve configured my lights to adjust based on the time of day and my location. If I’m away, the system switches to an energy-saving mode, turning off unnecessary lights and lowering the thermostat. When I return, everything seamlessly transitions back to my preferred settings.
