Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of Home Assistant and MQTT lately, and I wanted to share my experiences and some tips that might help others. First, I set up Home Assistant VM a few weeks ago following some online instructions. Everything went smoothly initially, but after updating Home Assistant, I encountered an error: ‘Unsupported system - virtualization_image’. I was a bit worried, but after some research, I found that reinstalling Home Assistant OS with a compatible image solved the issue. It’s a bit of a hassle, but it’s definitely doable!
Moving on to MQTT, I’ve been trying to integrate my Shelly devices into my system. At first, I thought I had everything set up correctly—MQTT binding was online, and my Shelly devices were showing as online. But then, after entering some commands, they went offline. I checked every configuration, followed all the steps I could find, but nothing seemed to work. It was frustrating, but I didn’t give up. I decided to start fresh, and now everything is running smoothly. I guess sometimes a clean slate is the best approach!
I also wanted to talk about automating my home a bit more. I’ve been using OpenHAB for a while now, and I love how customizable it is. I recently tried setting up a flow where two triggers could start the same action—like arming the alarm in different ways. It was a bit tricky at first, but I found a workaround by creating separate flows and linking them together. It’s not the most elegant solution, but it gets the job done!
If anyone has tips or tricks for optimizing MQTT setups or automating specific tasks, I’d love to hear them. Let’s keep the conversation going! ![]()
