Home Automation Fun & Tips for the Holidays

The holiday season is the perfect time to get creative with home automation! I’ve been experimenting with some fun DIY projects to add a festive touch to my smart home. Here’s what I’ve been up to and some tips that might inspire you too! :gift::sparkles:

1. Festive Lighting Effects

I’ve been playing around with my Govee LED lights to create some amazing color transitions. My favorite so far is a slow fade between red and green, with twinkling effects in between. It’s such a simple way to add some holiday cheer to any room! If you’re into DIY, I’d highly recommend checking out the Govee Light Studio for even more creative possibilities. The new music modes are a game-changer! :notes:

2. Adding Multiple Users to Blink Doorbell

One thing I’ve been wanting to do is share my Blink doorbell notifications with my family. I figured out how to add multiple users to the Blink app, and it’s super easy! Just go to the settings, select your camera, and add the email addresses of the people you want to share with. Now, everyone can stay updated on who’s at the door! :rotating_light:

3. Saving Video to Local Storage

I’ve been using Blink for security, and one thing I wanted was to save video footage locally. I found out that you can connect a USB drive to your Blink sync module to store recordings. It’s a great way to have backups without relying solely on cloud storage. Just make sure to format the drive properly before connecting it! :floppy_disk:

4. Hue Bridge & Hubitat Integration

I had a bit of trouble with my Hue Bridge after a power outage, but I managed to get it working again by resetting both the Hue Bridge and Hubitat. If you’re facing similar issues, try rebooting both devices and checking the connection settings in Hubitat. It’s frustrating when things go offline, but a fresh start usually does the trick! :electric_plug:

5. DIY Ideas for Party & Game Rooms

For those looking to create a fun atmosphere in their game rooms or party spaces, I’ve been experimenting with curtain lights and neon rope accents. They add a vibrant touch without being too overwhelming. Plus, they’re great for creating themed lighting effects for different occasions! :video_game::tada:

If you’ve got any holiday automation tips or DIY projects you’re proud of, I’d love to hear about them! Let’s keep the festive spirit alive with some smart home magic! :candle::sparkles:
