Homematic Integration in HomeAssistant: Seeking Clarity on Distributed Setup

Greetings, fellow enthusiasts! I’m reaching out to share my journey and seek some wisdom from the community regarding integrating my Raspi4 with Rasberrymatic into HomeAssistant.

My Setup: I’ve been running a Raspi4 with Rasberrymatic and an enhanced antenna for several years now, and it’s been a reliable workhorse. The setup includes a RPI-RF-Mod board, which has been functioning smoothly. However, I’ve recently decided to migrate to HomeAssistant for a more unified smart home experience.

The Challenge: The tutorials I’ve come across typically guide users through a single-machine installation, where both Homematic and Rasberrymatic are installed on the same device. My scenario is a bit different—I have a dedicated machine for HomeAssistant and my Raspi4 with the RPI-RF-Mod board on the same network.

My Approach: My initial thought was to simply provide the IP address of the Raspi4 to the HomeAssistant machine, informing it of the Homematic installation on a separate system. However, I’m not entirely sure how to execute this effectively.

Questions:

  • Is it feasible to integrate a Homematic setup distributed across two machines?
  • What steps or configurations are necessary to achieve this?
  • Are there any potential pitfalls or considerations I should be aware of?

Desire for Feedback: I’m eager to hear from anyone who has successfully navigated a similar setup or has insights to share. Whether it’s a confirmation that this approach is viable or a pointer toward specific documentation or tools, your input would be invaluable.

Closing Thoughts: This journey into integrating diverse smart home ecosystems is both exciting and a bit daunting. I’m optimistic that with the right guidance, I can achieve a seamless integration that enhances my home automation setup. Thanks in advance for your time and expertise! Happy tinkering! :rocket:
