HomeMatic LED16 Display: A Smart Home Monitoring Solution

As a long-time user of HomeMatic components, I’ve always been fascinated by the LED16 display’s ability to provide a real-time status overview of my smart home devices. It’s a fantastic way to keep track of everything from power outlets to freezer temperatures at a glance. However, I recently encountered a challenge that I thought I’d share with the community in case others are facing the same issue or have insights to offer.

The Setup: I’ve configured the LED16 to display the status of several devices, such as power outlets and temperature sensors. For instance, if power outlet 1 is on, the corresponding LED turns green; if it’s off, it turns black. Similarly, the freezer temperature is displayed with color-coded alerts for temperature ranges. This setup works perfectly when I manually toggle the devices via the HomeMatic interface.

The Challenge: The issue arose when I tried controlling the devices remotely using a wireless hand transmitter or the HomeMatic smartphone app. While the devices respond to these commands as expected, the LED16 display doesn’t update to reflect the new status. This inconsistency is puzzling, as it seems logical that the display should mirror the actual device state regardless of the control method.

The Quest for a Solution: I’ve read that it’s possible to create scripts or use system variables to periodically poll device statuses and update the LED16 accordingly. As a relative newcomer to scripting, I’m curious if there’s a straightforward way to implement this without diving too deep into complex configurations. My initial thought is to create a simple script that checks the status of each device every few minutes and updates the LED16 display accordingly. For example, if power outlet 1 is on, set LED 1 to green; if off, set it to black.

Community Input: I’d love to hear from more experienced users who might have tackled a similar issue. Is there a recommended approach or tool within the HomeMatic ecosystem that simplifies this process? Any tips or resources would be greatly appreciated!

In the meantime, I’ll continue exploring the scripting options and system variables. It’s a bit daunting, but I’m excited to see how I can enhance my smart home setup further. Thanks in advance for any guidance or suggestions you can offer!

Cheers,
