How do I get the P2 window/door sensor to make a voice announcement on a google hub?

I’m having trouble getting the P2 sensor once activated (door open or closed), to make an announcement on my google hubs. I want to hear when my door is opened or closed. Any Ideas?

Which ecosystem are you using? I assume you’re using Google Home? Have you set up an automation in Google Home, and can you select the hub for audio output there? You might find these Google Nest Help guides on how to broadcast messages and how to create automations useful for setting up the voice announcement.

I personally only use Apple Home, Aqara Home, and Home Assistant, so I don’t have first-hand experience with the specific Google Home setup. However, here is how it usually works in other systems:

  • Home Assistant: You can use almost all smart speakers (Chromecast, AirPlay, DLNA…) as media players and easily integrate Text-to-Speech (TTS) services, so it should be possible there.
  • Aqara Home: If you have an Aqara Hub with a built-in speaker, you can play custom audio files via automations. However, the Google Hub cannot be used as a speaker directly within the Aqara Home app.
  • Apple Home: This is not possible natively in Apple Home, but can be achieved via workarounds (e.g. Home Assistant or Shortcuts).

One advantage of the P2 sensor is that it is a Matter-over-Thread device. This means you can use the Matter Multi-Admin feature to connect it to multiple ecosystems at the same time. If you can’t get the announcements to work reliably in Google Home, you could run Home Assistant or an Aqara M3 Hub in parallel specifically for the voice alerts while still keeping the sensor in your Google Home setup.

Thanks for your response JohnD. I have set an automation to use my Google hubs to make a voice announcement, but I am only getting sms notifications. The hubs will announce when the doorbell is pressed and tell me exactly who is at the door. However, not having the same luck with the Aqara sensor.

What exactly is the problem? Don’t you see the sensor listed in the Automation options? Can you give us a few details or screenshots about your setup? That way, we might be able to help you better.

Sorry my whole comment didn’t come through. Basically I want to have my Google speakers announce when my front door is open or closed, using my P2 sensor.
