How to Delay Room Lighting Activation After Motion Detection

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a useful tip I discovered while tweaking my home automation setup. I’ve been using a Samsung SmartThings motion sensor to trigger my room lights, but I was frustrated that the lights turned on immediately upon detecting motion. I wanted a more gradual effect, so I decided to modify the automation to delay the light activation for 5 seconds after the initial motion detection.

Here’s what I did: I checked the motion sensor’s settings and noticed it sends a motion: active signal for 10 seconds before reverting to motion: inactive. Using this, I set up a rule in the Rule Machine to wait for 5 seconds after detecting motion before activating the lights. This way, the lights come on only if motion is still detected after the delay, which is perfect for my needs!

I’d love to hear if others have found creative solutions for similar automation challenges. It’s amazing how tweaking small details can make such a big difference in how our smart homes function. Happy automating! :rocket:
