Hi everyone,
I’m using the Aqara Video Doorbell G4, and while it’s working quite well overall, I’m noticing a delay when trying to answer the doorbell — especially from my Mac (even with the Home app already open in the background).
I often see the person or package right away in the live view, but when I tap to answer, the spinning wheel starts and it can take a while before the two-way audio connects — sometimes too late to have a proper conversation.
Has anyone found a way to reduce the lag or improve the connection speed? Would love tips on network setup, HomeKit optimizations, or anything else that could help speed up the response time.

Great topic. You are not the only one having that issue. It sometimes take more time to get notification compared to just walk out to the door.

I have had a slightly different issue regarding the audio response time. I usually will see the person (video) right away, and when I try to engage the 2 way audio, and begin speaking, the respondent at the doorbell usually requires me to repeat myself the first time around.
Some details that I noted:
My signal strength on my repeater is MEDIUM. I am upstairs from the front door, and have old school plaster&lathe walls, so positioning of the repeater is a possible factor.
I tried to position the repeater within 5m, and just power using a battery bank. Drains the batteries within a few days, and signal strength is still mediocre.
The system always suggests switching to FLUENCY before it begins working.

I haven’t had that problem at the moment, I get the notification at the same time in the aqara app and in the HomeKit app.

I have not had that issue. I would recommend that you place whatever you are using for your “HomePod” as close to the G4 as possible.
