I recently decided to upgrade my home security system by adding the Alarm.com Smart Chime (ADC-W115C). After some research, I found that this device not only acts as a customizable doorbell chime but also serves as a Wi-Fi extender, which was a perfect addition to my setup. First, I made sure I had all the necessary components: the ADC-W115C chime, a standard electrical outlet, a stable broadband Internet connection, and my Alarm.com account set up with the appropriate service package. I also ensured that my existing Alarm.com devices were connected to the same network, as the chime needs to communicate with them seamlessly.
The installation process was surprisingly straightforward. I started by plugging the chime into a wall outlet and waiting for the Power LED to turn solid, indicating that it was powered on. Next, I used the WPS mode to connect it to my router. I pressed and held the WPS button on the chime for about five seconds until the LED began blinking slowly. I then activated WPS mode on my router, and the chime quickly established a connection.
After the Wi-Fi connection was confirmed, I added the chime to my Alarm.com account through the mobile app. I navigated to the ‘Add Device’ section, selected ‘Video Camera,’ and entered the chime’s MAC address. Following the on-screen instructions, the setup was completed without any hiccups. The chime’s Router LED turned solid, confirming a successful internet connection.
One thing I found particularly useful was the ability to customize the chime’s sound. Through the Alarm.com app, I could choose from a variety of tones, which added a personal touch to my security system. Additionally, the chime’s role as a Wi-Fi extender has noticeably improved the network performance in my home, ensuring that all my smart devices stay connected.
