I’m using Aqara Zigbee devices and I’ve noticed there’s often a small delay (around 1 second) before actions trigger—for example, when pressing a wireless switch to turn on a light. Is there a way to make Zigbee actions respond faster?
I’d like to know if this depends more on the Aqara hub, the Zigbee mesh setup (number/placement of routers), or if there are specific settings to optimize speed. Any tips to reduce latency would be very helpful.
A small delay (around 1 second) with Aqara Zigbee devices is quite common and not unusual.
The hub itself adds very little latency, most of the delay comes from the Zigbee mesh and environment.
Zigbee relies heavily on the quality of the mesh, so the more stable it is, the faster the response.
First, add more powered Zigbee devices (like smart plugs or wired switches).
These act as routers and strengthen the mesh, reducing the number of hops and delays.
Place them strategically across your home so signals travel through the fastest routes.
Second, avoid Wi-Fi interference.
Zigbee runs at 2.4 GHz, the same band as Wi-Fi, microwaves, and Bluetooth.
Keep your hub a few feet away from Wi-Fi routers.
Third and more advanced: choose the right Zigbee channel.
Channels 15, 20, or 25 usually overlap less with Wi-Fi, which helps reduce collisions.
Re-pairing devices after changing the channel can further improve routing.
