Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation, and I’m absolutely loving how Alexa has transformed my mornings. I recently set up a morning routine that plays on all my Echo devices, and I wanted to share my experience in case anyone else is looking to do the same.
First, I’ll start by explaining what I wanted to achieve. I have an Echo Dot in my kitchen and an Echo Show 5 in my living room. I wanted my morning routine to play on both devices simultaneously so that I could hear it throughout the house. This would help me stay on track with my morning routine, whether I’m in the kitchen making coffee or in the living room getting ready for the day.
I stumbled upon the Alexa Flash Briefing feature, which allows you to create a custom morning routine. I set up my Flash Briefing with a mix of news, weather updates, and motivational quotes. However, I noticed that sometimes the order of the news sources would change, and occasionally, a news channel that wasn’t part of my routine would appear. This was a bit confusing, but I realized it was likely due to availability issues with certain news skills.
To ensure my morning routine plays on all my Echo devices, I discovered that I needed to enable the same Flash Briefing skill on each device. This way, both the Echo Dot and Echo Show would follow the same routine. I also made sure to set the correct wake-up time for each device, so they’re in sync.
Another thing I wanted to mention is the importance of naming your devices appropriately. I initially just kept the default names, but I found it easier to manage my devices once I renamed them to reflect their locations (e.g., “Kitchen Echo” and “Living Room Echo”). This helps when I’m setting up routines or making adjustments.
I also explored the option of using Alexa Routines to trigger my morning routine. I found that creating a routine with the “Start Flash Briefing” action worked perfectly. I set it to activate at a specific time each morning, ensuring I start my day on the right foot.
One thing I’m still experimenting with is the ability to customize the order of the news sources in my Flash Briefing. I’ve reached out to Alexa support to see if there’s a way to lock in the order, but for now, I’m happy with the flexibility it offers.
In summary, setting up Alexa to play your morning routine on multiple devices is a fantastic way to streamline your mornings. It took a bit of trial and error, but with some patience, I was able to create a routine that works seamlessly across all my Echo devices. If anyone has tips or tricks for optimizing their morning routine, I’d love to hear them!
