Hub E1 + Smart Lock

Ok, I have a smart lock installed on my garage door, and it seemed I had to purchase a hub for it to work. Does that sound right? I’m still having issues getting my smart lock to link up and then add fingerprints. Is it this hard for others?

@thomasjulieor It sounds like you’re going through the initial setup process, which can indeed have a few steps—let’s break this down to help!

First, regarding the hub: Yes, most Aqara smart locks do require a compatible hub for full functionality like remote control or app integration. For example, models like the U100 and U50 Door Locks explicitly need a hub (including the E1 Hub you mentioned) to bind successfully. So your experience of needing a hub is normal!

For the linking (binding) issue: Let’s troubleshoot with these steps first:

  1. Ensure both your E1 Hub and smart lock have the latest firmware installed.
  2. Keep the hub within 10m of the lock (obstacles like walls can affect signal).
  3. Check the lock’s battery level—low power might disrupt binding.

As for fingerprint registration: If you’re having trouble here, common fixes include:

  • Making sure your fingerprint isn’t damaged and the scanner is dry before starting.
  • During enrollment (which usually requires 7 scans total), press your finger fully on the sensor and vary the angle slightly each time (avoid repeating the same angle). Follow the voice or app prompts closely!

Many users find setup smooth once these steps are nailed down—you’re not alone if it takes a little trial and error. Have you tried these tips yet? If issues persist, feel free to share your lock model (if you know it), and maybe others can chime in with similar experiences
