Hubitat Time Sync Issue and Power Outage Concerns

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with Hubitat and get some advice from the community. I’ve been using Hubitat for a few weeks now, and it’s been working great—until last week when I ran into a bit of a hiccup.

So, here’s what happened: I have a Rule Machine rule set up to switch my mode from “Sleep” to “Home” at 5:50 AM, with a few exceptions for when I’m on vacation or away. This rule has been working perfectly for weeks. But last Monday morning, the mode didn’t switch to “Home” as expected. When my door opened at 6 AM, my alarms went off, waking up my kids and my wife, who wasn’t too happy about it.

After some troubleshooting, I realized that Hubitat’s time was completely off—like a full day early and showing the wrong time altogether. I managed to fix it by syncing the time manually through the browser, but this got me thinking: why did this happen in the first place?

The day before, I had killed the power in my house to install a new dimmer switch. I suspect this caused the Hubitat to restart, along with my routers. But even though the internet came back quickly, Hubitat didn’t seem to update its time properly.

Here are my questions:

  1. Why didn’t Hubitat check and update its time after the power outage? I would assume it periodically checks the time, especially after a reboot.
  2. Is there something I can do to prevent this from happening in the future? I understand that Hubitat doesn’t have a battery-powered clock, so if there’s no internet, it can’t sync. But in my case, the internet was back up pretty quickly.
  3. What if this happens while I’m away on vacation? I’d hate to come home to a system that’s completely out of sync.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and any tips you might have to avoid this issue in the future. Thanks in advance for your help!
