Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with the Hue hub update and some tips I’ve gathered along the way. Yesterday, my Hue hub updated to version 1935144020, and since then, I’ve noticed some scenes aren’t working as they used to. For example, a scene that turns on two Hue lights when motion is detected is now only turning on one light, and sometimes it’s switching them on and off randomly. This odd behavior happened after a previous Hue update too, but switching to the alt Hue app fixed it. Now, the issue is back, and I’m curious if anyone else is experiencing similar problems.
On a lighter note, I’ve been exploring some new smart lighting solutions and thought I’d share what I’ve learned. I recently picked up a Shelly Plus 1 for switching a light with 4 GU10 LED bulbs. Since I don’t have a wall switch, I’ve been controlling it via the app. Unfortunately, the light is too bright, so I’m considering upgrading to a Shelly Dimmer 2. From what I understand, the LEDs need to be dimmable, and each should be at least 10W. I’m also wondering if I can use the dimmer without a wall switch, given that I have live and neutral wires. Has anyone successfully used a dimmer without a physical switch?
Another project I’m working on is setting up a lighting schedule for my son’s school routine. I have a Zigbee RGB bulb that I want to configure to change colors at specific times—red one minute before class starts, white during class, and green when it ends. This would help him stay on track without constant reminders. I’m considering using Hubitat’s Rules Machine for this, but I’m concerned about system load and cluttering the rule list. If anyone has tips or alternative approaches, I’d love to hear them!
Lastly, I wanted to mention the Govee Magic 15” Pro Ceiling Light I recently installed. The setup was surprisingly smooth, and the app integration was seamless. It’s like having a disco ball and a cloud in one! The features are incredible, and it’s compatible with Matter, Alexa, and Google Home. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a versatile and stylish lighting solution.
If anyone has advice on the Hue hub issues, Shelly dimmer setup, or scheduling tips, please share your insights! Happy smart home tinkering! ![]()
