Hey everyone! I recently installed the Hue Motion Sensor V2 in my hallway, and I wanted to share my experience and some tips for anyone considering this device.
First off, the installation process was straightforward. I paired it directly with my Hubitat Ecosystem, though I do have a Hue Bridge as well. The sensor detected motion almost immediately, and the logs provided helpful insights. However, I noticed that the lux readings weren’t as expected. Initially, it showed a lux value of zero, which was confusing. After some troubleshooting, I realized that the refresh button wasn’t capturing the lux levels correctly.
I decided to test the sensor under different lighting conditions. With the hallway lights on, the readings ranged from 3 to 5 lux, which seemed reasonable given the 75-watt high hat and additional lights beyond that. I adjusted the reporting threshold in the settings to ensure it only triggers when it’s truly dark. This small tweak made a big difference in how effectively the sensor operates.
One thing I particularly appreciate is how customizable the sensor is. I set up a rule where the lights turn on for 60 minutes when motion is detected. If motion is detected again within that period, it extends the timer, which is super convenient. I also found the motion detection range to be spot on, capturing movement without unnecessary false triggers.
Overall, I’m really happy with the Hue Motion Sensor. It’s a reliable addition to my smart home setup, and I’d definitely recommend it to others looking to enhance their home automation. If you have any questions or tips, feel free to share! ![]()
