Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience integrating my Hue motion sensor with SmartThings. It was a bit of a journey, but I finally got it working, and I’m thrilled with the results! ![]()
For those of you who might be going through the same process, here’s what I did:
-
Research & Setup: I started by looking up guides online. I found a GitHub repository with a custom device handler that seemed promising. I followed the instructions to create a new device handler in SmartThings, copying the code exactly as provided.
-
Pairing Challenges: The tricky part came when trying to pair the sensor. Despite putting it into pairing mode and scanning for new devices in the SmartThings app, it just wouldn’t show up. I was a bit stuck and had to take a break to clear my head.
-
Solution Found: After some time away from the project, I revisited the GitHub page and noticed there were some troubleshooting tips in the comments. One user suggested ensuring the Zigbee channel settings on the Hue bridge matched those in SmartThings. That was the key! I adjusted the settings and retried the pairing process.
-
Success at Last: This time, it worked like a charm! The sensor showed up in my device list, and I could start configuring it within SmartThings. It’s now seamlessly integrated into my smart home setup, triggering lights and cameras as needed.
I just wanted to shout out to the developer of that GitHub repo and all the helpful commenters who provided guidance. Your contributions made this possible! ![]()
