I use an E1 Camera for back garden viewing, and sometimes in late nights (relatively lit up) with Human Presence turned on, the camera will detect my tuxedo cat as “Human” in the Aqara app. His facial white and black shades does look like centre-parted hairstyle.
The camera is also linked into HomeKit and the HSV doesn’t pick up any human detection. I’m not sure why Aqara has not perfected its algorithm to distinguish animals from human figures. I have fed back to Aqara numerous times over the recent months about this but no improvement seen.
The E1 camera is an entry-level indoor camera. It is only capable of detecting motion and people, and it’s positioned as an indoor camera. So outdoor + animal scenarios might be its weak spot.
Since you have a cat, we recommend considering Al-powered animal detection-able cameras like the G3 or G350, which can more accurately distinguish between humans and animals. Or you can also subscribe to our HomeGuardian plan where it includes cloud-based animal detection and many other features if needed.
For the human detection not being caught by HomeKit, it’s caused by the algorithm of Apple Home.
I will also share your feedback with our team for further improvement. Feel free to let us know if you have more questions!
