Ideas for baby room automations

Hi,

I’m gonna be dad for the first time. Has anybody implemented smart tech in a nursery? If yes, what has been working well so far? Or have you got any ideas? Thanks

@gjcml Congratulations on the exciting journey of becoming a dad! Implementing smart tech in a nursery can offer both convenience and peace of mind. Here are some ideas you might find helpful:

  1. Smart Lighting: Consider using smart bulbs that can be dimmed or changed to a soothing color to help your baby sleep better. You can automate them to gradually dim at bedtime.

  2. Temperature and Humidity Monitoring: Use sensors to maintain the ideal environment for your baby. Automate your thermostat to adjust based on the room’s conditions.

  3. Smart Cameras: Set up a smart camera for monitoring your baby. Some models even offer motion detection and can send alerts to your smartphone.

  4. Music and White Noise: Automate a speaker to play lullabies or white noise, which can be soothing for newborns.

  5. Safety Alerts: Use door and window sensors to get alerts if they are opened unexpectedly, ensuring your baby’s safety.

For specific setups, you might want to create automations that integrate these devices, like using a motion sensor to trigger a soft nightlight when the baby moves. Explore these options and tailor them to your needs. Feel free to share your experience or ask more questions as you set up your smart nursery!

@gjcml , I have all the above.

  1. Aqara g3 as the camera (love the touch of the ears so goes well in the room
  2. Aqara P2 Door and window sensors so I know if the window opens.
  3. I have a Tado thermostat so have the radiator valve in the room which also measures temp and humidity
  4. Phillips Hue light bulb and light switch to easily turn lights on an off.

You can also get smart cots that rock but I do think they are expensive

@johnsond28 It sounds like you’ve created quite an impressive setup for your nursery! Using the Aqara G3 camera with its adorable design fits perfectly in a baby’s room, adding both functionality and a cute touch. The Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2 is a great choice for monitoring window openings, ensuring your little one’s safety.

Pairing the Tado thermostat with a radiator valve to measure temperature and humidity is a smart way to maintain a comfortable environment for your baby. The Philips Hue light bulb and switch offer easy control over lighting, creating the perfect ambiance for sleep and play.

Smart cots can indeed be a fantastic addition for soothing your baby, even though they might come with a higher price tag. Thank you for sharing your setup! Your insights will surely inspire other parents-to-be looking to incorporate smart technology into their nurseries. Feel free to keep us updated with any new additions or changes you make.

Hey guys, baby has arrived and here are the things I implemented at home for her room, feel free to share your ideas or setup as well… or ask me any questions if you need more details.

Heating: there is a temperature and humidity sensor paired with a smart radiator valve, that are connected to a smart relay on my individual boiler in order to turn heating ON/OFF and keep the room temperature at 20 degrees Celsius.

Humidity: I have a dehumidifier on a smart plug that starts when the humidity is above 60% and turns off when it is below 50%.

Doors and windows: we have a sensor on the window to know when it is open.

Display: We also have a W100 thermostat in order to display room temperature and humidity so we don’t have to check on the phones.

Monitoring: there is a G3 camera hub to keep an eye on the baby, and I have configured a push notification on our phones when the baby cries.

Music: I have loaded 5 lullabies on the G3 camera so it can play music when the baby cries, or when we want to play them.

Light: we have installed a smart led strip behind the chest of drawers so it becomes a dim light when we put the baby to bed, or turns ON when the baby cries after she wakes up at night.

Control devices: we have a smart cube to play or stop the lullabies i mentioned above. In the future, we will use the cube to set scenes in the room in order to adjust all of the devices according to time (heating at night, day, absent etc). I have also configured the buttons on the w100 thermostat in order to turn music or lights on/off.

Nice setup. You’re not there yet but using smart lights is a great way to teach your toddler to stay in bed.
Red during the night, orange when it’s ok to be awake but stay in your room and play and green when you can sprint to rhe parents bedroom and jump on their bed to wake them up.

Great idea ! We will do that when it’s the right time. Right now baby is sleeping in our room but when she’ll be in hers we’ll use the led strip as a night light. And then do what you say !

Yes it’s great to pair that with the cube. I found lullaby remakes of classical music and there’s one for each side of the cube and one to stop the music. The problem is that you’re very limited with the size of the files, so you may have to find a way to compress them before loading them on the camera.
