I’ve been using Wyze cameras for my part-time camera installation business, and I must say, they’ve been a game-changer. The ability to integrate with IFTTT and trigger webhooks has been a huge hit with my clients. Here’s how it works: I set up a Raspberry Pi during installation, and the Wyze camera triggers an IFTTT applet that sends a notification to their smart home assistant, like Google Home. This setup alerts them whenever motion or sound is detected outside their home—perfect for keeping an eye on things even when they’re not around.
However, I’ve hit a snag. Starting October 7th, I can no longer advertise this feature, and I’m concerned about how my new clients will react to the IFTTT Pro subscription fee. It’s just $1.99 a month, but I’m not sure everyone will be willing to pay. My questions are: Is there an alternative way to trigger webhooks without IFTTT? And does Wyze have any plans to add this functionality natively? If not, I might have to switch to other brands that support this feature, but I’m not sure which ones yet.
On a positive note, I’ve found that integrating Wyze cameras with other smart home devices has been seamless, and the community support is fantastic. I’d love to hear from others who’ve successfully implemented similar setups or have tips for overcoming these challenges. Let’s keep the brainstorming going!
