Hi all, I’ve been experimenting with integrating my Arlo camera into my smart home setup, and I wanted to share my experience and a useful workaround I found. I’ve always found the Arlo camera’s motion sensing to be a bit hit or miss, so I decided to add an outdoor motion sensor to improve reliability. I used IFTTT to trigger recording when the sensor detected motion, which worked well. However, I noticed a delay in triggering the recording through IFTTT, which was a bit frustrating.
Recently, I discovered that Arlo now supports integration with SmartThings directly, which means I can set up a rule without relying on IFTTT. This has been a game-changer for me! I set up a rule where the Arlo camera starts recording immediately when the motion sensor detects movement. It’s seamless and much faster than the IFTTT method I was using before.
I wanted to share this solution in case anyone else is looking to improve their Arlo setup. It’s great to see Arlo expanding its compatibility with other smart home ecosystems. If you’re using SmartThings, I highly recommend checking out this integration—it’s made my home security setup much more efficient.
Happy smart home tinkering everyone! ![]()
