IFTTT Replacement: Custom Heating Boosts with Tado

As a long-time user of IFTTT, I relied heavily on its ability to boost my heating to specific temperatures for set durations. It was incredibly useful for those chilly mornings or sudden drops in temperature. However, with the recent removal of the IFTTT integration, I found myself in need of a new solution to maintain this functionality.

After some research, I discovered that Tado offers a boost feature, but it lacked the customization I was used to. I wanted the flexibility to set both the temperature and duration precisely, rather than sticking to the default settings. This led me to explore how I could integrate this feature into my current smart home setup.

I decided to create a custom automation within my smart home ecosystem. The goal was to replicate the functionality I had with IFTTT but with the added benefit of more control. I set up rules that allow me to boost my heating to 21 or 22 degrees for 1-2 hours, depending on the situation. This has been a game-changer, especially during the colder months when I need precise control over my home’s temperature.

While Alexa can handle some of these features, I find it clunky and not as intuitive as the custom solution I’ve built. The ability to zone my heating, turning on all thermostats upstairs or downstairs as part of a boost, adds another layer of convenience that I couldn’t achieve before.

I’m hopeful that in the future, more platforms will adopt this level of customization, allowing users like me to tailor their smart home experiences to their exact needs. Until then, I’m grateful for the flexibility that my current setup provides and the support I’ve received from the community in achieving this.

If anyone has tips or suggestions on how to further enhance this setup, I’d love to hear them! Let’s continue to innovate and improve our smart home experiences together.
