Hello community, I’m reaching out to seek some expert advice regarding an issue I’ve been encountering with my Ikea Tradfri Control Outlet and Alexa. First off, I want to express my gratitude for the incredible support and knowledge shared in this forum—it truly makes a world of difference for someone like me who’s still navigating the smart home landscape.
Here’s the situation: I’ve successfully integrated several Ikea Tradfri Control Outlets into my smart home setup, using them to control lamps and a surveillance camera within my house. Alexa commands work seamlessly for these devices when they’re configured as lights. However, I’ve encountered an unexpected behavior with outlets configured as plugs. Specifically, when I issue a command like ‘Alexa, turn off all the lights,’ it not only turns off the devices set as lights but also affects those set as plugs. This includes a camera on my terrace and another in a different room, both of which are configured as plugs in the Alexa app.
I’ve tried troubleshooting by removing and re-adding these devices, ensuring they’re correctly categorized as plugs, but the issue persists. It seems like Alexa is interpreting the plug devices as lights when executing the ‘turn off all lights’ command, which isn’t the intended functionality. This has been a bit frustrating, especially since it disrupts the seamless automation I was aiming for.
I’m curious if anyone else has encountered this behavior or has insights into why it might be happening. Is there a specific configuration or workaround that can ensure devices configured as plugs only respond to commands directed at plugs, and not those intended for lights? Any advice or experiences shared would be invaluable as I continue to refine my smart home setup.
Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. I’m hopeful that together, we can find a solution that keeps my smart home running smoothly and my devices behaving as expected.
