Improving Wyze Camera Local Recording Experience

I’ve been using Wyze cameras for a while now, and I must say, they’ve been a great addition to my home security setup. However, I recently encountered an issue with the local recording feature that I wanted to share my experience with, in case others are facing the same problem.

Earlier this month, I noticed that my Wyze cameras were not recording as expected. Specifically, during a period when I was away, I found gaps in the local recordings, which was concerning. Upon closer inspection, I realized that the issue might be related to the firmware version I had installed. I decided to do a bit of troubleshooting and here’s what I found:

  1. Firmware Check: I started by checking the firmware versions of all my cameras. It turned out that I had recently updated them to the latest firmware, which might have introduced some bugs. To test this theory, I rolled back to a previous firmware version and noticed an improvement in the local recording functionality.

  2. SD Card Compatibility: Another thing I considered was the compatibility of the SD cards I was using. I have different cards in each camera, and while most worked fine, one particular card seemed to cause issues. I replaced it with a higher-rated card and the problem resolved.

  3. Power Cycling: Sometimes, a simple restart can work wonders. I powered off each camera, waited for about 30 seconds, and then turned them back on. This process helped in resetting any temporary glitches and ensured that the cameras were functioning optimally.

  4. Placement and Environment: I also took the time to reassess the placement of my cameras. Ensuring that they were in stable positions and away from direct sunlight helped in preventing any overheating issues that might have contributed to the problem.

After implementing these steps, I noticed a significant improvement in the local recording capabilities of my Wyze cameras. It’s always a bit nerve-wracking when you rely on technology for security, but taking the time to troubleshoot and adjust settings can make a world of difference.

If anyone else is experiencing similar issues, I’d recommend starting with a firmware rollback and checking the compatibility of your SD cards. Sometimes, the simplest solutions are the most effective. Happy automating!
