Installing W600 for non tech savvy

I bought a radiator thermostat W600. I found the process of adding it to the Aqara app absolutely bewildering. I have no idea what Thread, Zigbee or Matter are, or which, if any, applies to me. Google seemed to suggest I needed an E1 hub, so I bought one of those. Getting that going was a proper faff, but I think it got there in the end, and appears on the Aqara app. I still, however, can’t seem to get the W600 installed. Is there an idiot guide anywhere?

Hello, welcome to the forum.
When connecting the W600 for the first time, select the Zigbee protocol. It will take some time to update the firmware for the W600, then everything should be fine.

Many thanks for the advice. I did that and seemed to get a little further. However in trying to connect it to the E1 hub, (only a few cm away), I get the following message:
Zigbee connection timeout.

For information: there are two QR codes to scan when setting up the thermostat, one ‘Aqara’ and one ‘Matter’. I chose the Aqara. Any further help gratefully received.

E1 is intended for your region (Europe), isn’t it Chinese?

For your information, E1 does not support matter, you need M100 for that

I should have said. I live in the UK, and bought the E1 hub from Amazon.co.uk. I don’t really know what Matter is, or whether or not it’s something that I have, or should have. Certainly I chose the ‘Aqara’ QR code (as opposed to the Matter QR code), when initially pairing with the W100 radiator.

Do you think I should have bought a different hub?

If it helps, I was surprised that the installation process insisted on installing the E1 hub into Apple Homekit. I don’t use Apple Homekit, and wouldn’t know where to start with it. I have an Amazon Echo.

And I read that there were cases when Amazon sold gateways from the Chinese region without indicating the buyer. If possible, return your E1 and buy an M100 gateway.
Be sure to check that it is for the European region.

Such packaging.

Many thanks for the advice. I bought an M100, and now have both it, and the W600, installed successfully to the Aqara app (though I had to update the firmware).

Next, I linked Alexa to Aqara successfully.

Next, I tried to connect the thermostat to Alexa. It recognised it was there, so I clicked on it, and it asked for a Matter QR code. It then searched for the device, but couldn’t find it. It also removes the W600 from the Aqara app, and I had to add it again.

Any help gratefully received.

Hi, if you need matter, then reinstall W600 again. On the first page of the installation, select the Thread mode. Then everything should be ok.
