Integrate IR devices into Home Assistant

Hi there!

I have been trying to use the devices I linked via IR to my Aqara hub M3 and make them available in Home Assistant, but so far, I have failed. I cannot see the IR devices and start automation. Has anyone been able to set this up? Would be very much appreciated!

@ccruizm_mv Hi!

Thanks for reaching out with your question. It sounds like you’re attempting to integrate IR devices linked to your Aqara Hub M3 into Home Assistant. Unfortunately, based on the information available, there isn’t a direct way to make IR devices connected through the Aqara Hub M3 available in Home Assistant. The IR function of the Aqara Hub M3 is primarily designed for use within the Aqara Home App.

However, you can connect Aqara devices that support HomeKit to Home Assistant using the HomeKit Controller integration. Here’s a quick guide on how to set that up:

  1. Prepare the HomeKit Device:

    • Ensure the device is reset and not currently paired with any other HomeKit controller.
    • Connect the device to your local network.
  2. Add the HomeKit Controller Integration:

    • In Home Assistant, go to Settings > Devices & Services.
    • Click on Add Integration.
    • Search for and select HomeKit Controller.
  3. Pair the Device:

    • Home Assistant will discover available HomeKit devices on your network.
    • Select the device you wish to add.
    • Enter the device’s pairing code when prompted.
  4. Finalize Integration:

    • After successful pairing, the device will be available in Home Assistant for control and automation.

I hope this helps! If anyone in the community has additional insights or workarounds, feel free to share. Let’s keep the conversation going!

There is a possibility. Not the best way, but it’s the only way I know.

I’ve got an old AVR from Yamaha. The integration in the Aqara app was no problem.

If you create a scene with the function you want (I wanted simply the power button). Now you have to create an automation with this scene. Now you can expose this automation with scen & signal synchronization.
(I don’t know the exact words, because my app doesn’t run in english).

That’s how I got an on/off switch to home assistant.

But why is it not possible to expose the whole Ir thing? In the Aqara app I’ve got the whole remote control from my AVR.
