I’ve been working on a really cool project to integrate a 12V LED strip into our home, and I wanted to share my experience and setup with everyone. The goal was to have a seamless way to control the LEDs both manually with a dimmer and through smart home automation using Zigbee. I’ve always been a fan of having flexibility in my smart home setup, so this project was a great way to achieve that.
First, I started by setting up the LED strip without any smart home integration. I used a 12V power supply, a dimmer switch that outputs 1-10V, and an LED controller. This setup worked perfectly for manual control, and I was really happy with how easy it was to adjust the brightness of the LEDs. The dimmer switch I chose was super responsive, and it gave me a smooth transition between different brightness levels.
But I wanted more. I wanted to be able to control these LEDs through my smart home system, specifically using Home Assistant. That’s where the Zigbee controller came into play. After some research, I found a Zigbee controller that was compatible with both the dimmer switch and Home Assistant. This was a bit of a challenge because finding a controller that works with both 1-10V dimmers and Zigbee wasn’t straightforward, but I managed to find one that worked perfectly.
Once everything was set up, I was amazed at how well the system performed. I could adjust the LEDs manually using the dimmer switch or through my phone using the Home Assistant app. It was like having the best of both worlds—manual control for when I wanted it and smart home automation for convenience.
One thing I really appreciate about this setup is the redundancy it provides. Even if Home Assistant were to go down for some reason, the LEDs would still be fully functional using the dimmer switch. This gave me peace of mind knowing that my lighting setup wasn’t entirely dependent on my smart home system.
I’d love to hear from others who have done similar projects or have any tips for improving this setup. If you’ve integrated a 12V LED strip with a dimmer and Zigbee controller, I’d love to hear about your experience!
