Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience integrating Alexa with OpenHAB for a seamless smart home setup. I’ve been using OpenHAB with KNX and Amazon Echo Dots for a while now, and while it works, I’ve been looking for ways to make it even more intuitive.
Here’s my situation: I have multiple Echo Dots placed throughout my home. When I want to turn on the lights in the living room, I have to specify the room in my command, like, “Alexa, turn on the living room lights.” It got me thinking—wouldn’t it be awesome if Alexa could automatically detect which room I’m in and adjust accordingly?
I came across some ideas online about using location services or integrating with OpenHAB’s geolocation features. Maybe I could set it up so that if I’m in the living room, any light-related commands would default to that room. I’m not entirely sure how to implement this yet, but I’m excited to explore the possibilities.
If anyone has experience with this or knows of any plugins or integrations that could help, I’d love to hear about it! It would be amazing to have a more intuitive smart home setup without having to specify the room every time.
Looking forward to your thoughts and suggestions! ![]()
