Integrating Blue Iris Motion Detection with SmartThings for porch light automation

I’ve been experimenting with integrating my Blue Iris camera system with SmartThings to automate my porch lights, and I wanted to share my journey and findings. For those who might be curious or facing similar challenges, here’s how I made it work!First, I had a Blue Iris camera monitoring my back door, along with a Z-Wave door contact switch and an Aeon Z-Wave bulb outside. The goal was to have the porch light turn on automatically when motion was detected by Blue Iris. After some research, I discovered that Blue Iris has the capability to send events to external systems, and SmartThings can receive these events to trigger actions. The key was setting up the right rules and ensuring that the devices were properly configured within both systems. Here’s a quick breakdown of what I did:- Configured Blue Iris to send motion detection events to SmartThings- Set up a rule in SmartThings to receive the event and trigger the porch light- Tested the setup to ensure everything worked seamlesslyThe result? Perfect automation! Now, whenever someone walks by my back door, the porch light lights up, providing both security and convenience. It’s been a fantastic way to enhance my home’s security system without any major hassles. If anyone has questions or needs help setting something similar up, feel free to reach out! I’d be happy to share more details or troubleshoot any issues.
