I recently stumbled upon an innovative way to enhance my home automation setup using a simple Bluetooth keyboard. After some experimentation, I managed to transform a budget-friendly Bluetooth keyboard into a reliable wireless remote for my Home Assistant installation. Here’s how it all came together!
I utilized the Keyboard Remote component, which, unfortunately, is only compatible with Linux. With the invaluable assistance of the Home Assistant community, I was able to tweak the code and address a few issues that arose from using a battery-powered device. The result? A seamless integration that now works flawlessly!
One of the standout features is the ability to control virtually anything through automation, paired with voice feedback using Google TTS. But perhaps the happiest users are my family members, who no longer need to rely on their phones for basic controls. It’s been a fantastic way to simplify their interaction with our smart home setup.
If anyone has questions or needs guidance, I’d be more than happy to share my experience and help them get started. Happy automating! ![]()
