I’ve been exploring ways to integrate my smart home devices with monitoring tools, and I stumbled upon an interesting setup using PRTG and CCU2. For those unfamiliar, PRTG is a network monitoring tool that also works well for smart home devices, especially with its free version supporting up to 100 sensors. I’ve been using it alongside my CCU2, which allows me to access various smart home values through its XML API.
One of the most exciting projects I’ve worked on is creating a custom sensor using PowerShell. This allows me to pull data from my CCU2 devices, like the temperature from my HomeMatic wall thermostat or the power usage from my smart switch. It’s been a great way to visualize this data in PRTG, giving me a clear overview of my home’s energy consumption and temperature trends.
While CCU2 has its own graphical interface, I find PRTG’s monitoring capabilities to be a great complement. However, I’d love to see more interactive features, like triggering actions directly from PRTG. For now, I’m happy with how it enhances my smart home setup.
If anyone has tips or experiences with similar integrations, I’d love to hear about them! It’s always inspiring to see how others are pushing the boundaries of smart home technology.
