Integrating Curb Energy Monitor with Home Assistant

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience integrating the Curb energy monitor with Home Assistant. After spending several years relying on the Curb device for energy monitoring, I decided to explore how to bring this data into HA for a more seamless and integrated smart home experience.

Initially, I thought it would be straightforward since the Curb connects to my TP-Link powerline Ethernet adapter, which is already on the same network as my NAS running HA. However, I quickly realized that direct integration wasn’t as simple as I hoped. I stumbled upon a Reddit thread suggesting the use of MQTT to pipe Curb’s data into HA, which seemed like a viable workaround.

I decided to give this approach a try. After some research, I found a guide that walked me through setting up MQTT on my Docker instance. While I encountered a few hiccups along the way—like figuring out the correct configuration for the MQTT broker and ensuring it communicated properly with Curb—the process became much clearer once I broke it down into smaller steps.

Now, I’m thrilled to see my energy usage data neatly integrated into HA. It’s incredibly satisfying to have all my smart home devices and energy monitoring under one roof. This integration has not only enhanced my energy awareness but also provided a more comprehensive view of my home’s systems.

If anyone else is looking to integrate their Curb device into HA, I’d be happy to share the steps I took or troubleshoot any issues you might encounter. Let’s continue to explore and optimize our smart home setups together! :earth_africa::bulb:
