Hello openHAB enthusiasts! I’m excited to share my journey of integrating Danfoss Ally thermostats into my smart home setup. After a disappointing experience with Eurotronic Spirit TRVs, which often lost connection and were difficult to control, I decided to upgrade to the Danfoss Ally eTRV0103 devices. The goal was to achieve a stable and reliable smart thermostat system that I could fully control through openHAB.
Initially, the integration seemed straightforward. The devices connected seamlessly to my Zigbee network, and I could see them in both the deCONZ GUI and the Phoscon Web App. However, when I tried to bring them into openHAB, I encountered some challenges. The thing state was ‘unknown,’ and many of the channels that were present with the Eurotronic devices were missing. This was frustrating, especially since the devices worked perfectly in Home Assistant.
After some research and troubleshooting, I discovered that the issue was related to the DDF file configuration. I extended the file by adding the necessary config/mode states, but this didn’t resolve the problem. I then decided to test the devices in Home Assistant to confirm their functionality, and they performed flawlessly there.
To address the openHAB integration, I explored various configurations and settings within the system. I ensured that the Zigbee binding was correctly set up and that the devices were properly paired. I also checked the logs for any errors or warnings that might provide clues. After several attempts and adjustments, I found that the issue was with the way the device states were being reported in openHAB. I implemented a workaround by adjusting the rules and ensuring that the device was correctly recognized and configured within the system.
Now, I’m thrilled to report that my Danfoss Ally thermostats are fully functional within openHAB. The temperature control is precise, and I can monitor and adjust settings remotely. The integration has significantly improved my smart home experience, and I’m confident that others can achieve similar success with careful setup and troubleshooting.
If anyone else is working on integrating Danfoss Ally devices or facing similar challenges, I’d love to hear your experiences and tips! Let’s continue to explore and optimize our smart home setups together. ![]()
