Hey everyone, I thought I’d share my experience integrating a DUWI remote control into my OpenHAB setup to control non-Z-Wave devices. I’ve been using Z-Wave devices for a while now, and I wanted to expand my setup to include some non-Z-Wave devices. Here’s how I did it:
First, I included the DUWI remote in my Z-Wave network. It was pretty straightforward—just add it through the Z-Wave settings in OpenHAB. Once it was added, I noticed that the remote could control my existing Z-Wave devices, but I wanted to use it for more than that.
I wanted to use the remaining keys on the remote to send commands to OpenHAB to control non-Z-Wave devices. After some research, I found that I could map the remote’s buttons to specific actions in OpenHAB. For example, pressing a certain button could trigger a scene or a rule in OpenHAB.
Here’s how I set it up:
- I used the Z-Wave configuration tool in OpenHAB to assign specific button presses on the remote to certain actions.
- I created rules in OpenHAB that trigger when a button on the remote is pressed. These rules can then control any device that’s integrated into OpenHAB, whether it’s Z-Wave or not.
- I tested the setup by pressing the buttons and verifying that the actions were triggered correctly.
This integration has been a game-changer for me. Now, I can control all my devices—Z-Wave and non-Z-Wave—using the same remote. It’s a great way to simplify my setup and make my home automation more seamless.
I’d love to hear if anyone else has tried something similar or has any tips for improving this integration. Happy automating! ![]()
