Integrating Existing Remote-Controlled Fans with Hubitat

Hi everyone, I recently came across a challenge with integrating my existing remote-controlled fans with Hubitat. I have a pair of fans with lights installed in my screened patio in South Florida. Currently, they’re controlled via a remote that seems to be on its last legs. The remote allows control of both fans and lights independently, but they’re either both on or both off, which isn’t ideal for me. I’d like to replace this setup with Hubitat to have more control and automation capabilities.

My main goals are:

  1. Replace the unreliable remote and receiver setup.
  2. Add automation to turn off the fans and lights at specific times or states.
  3. Install a manual, wife-friendly switch nearby since the fans are at the far end of the house.

I have intermediate electrical experience and can handle wiring and installations, but I’m not sure about the best gear to use for this setup. I’ve heard that Z-Wave is a good option, and I’d like to ensure that Hubitat can control both the lights and fans independently. I also need a way to install a manual switch without too much wiring, as the walls are cement block stucco.

Has anyone tackled a similar project? Any recommendations on hardware or strategies would be greatly appreciated! I’m excited to dive into this but want to make sure I’m on the right track before making any purchases. Thanks in advance for your insights!
