I purchased five Iris Motion sensors during a Lowe’s closeout sale, and they’ve been working perfectly—except for one that started draining batteries rapidly. Initially, it went from lasting six months to just four weeks after updating the app. I suspect it might be polling more frequently, but I’m not entirely sure.
Rather than constantly replacing batteries, I decided to solder wires from a 3v AC/DC power adapter. This not only solved the battery issue but also made the sensor more reliable. It’s a simple fix that I highly recommend for anyone looking to reduce maintenance.
For those interested in similar solutions, the GE Pourable Motion sensor, which uses 6v, can also be powered externally using a USB adapter.
