Integrating Google Home, Philips Hue, and SmartThings: A Seamless Smart Home Experience

I’ve been on a journey to create a seamless smart home ecosystem, and I wanted to share my experiences and insights. Starting with Google Home and Philips Hue was straightforward, but adding the SmartThings Hub V3 introduced some interesting challenges and opportunities.

Initially, I set up the Hue Bridge within SmartThings to automate lighting based on sensor triggers. However, I noticed that linking both Hue and SmartThings accounts to Google Assistant caused lights to appear twice in the system. This duplication made me wonder: should I rely solely on Google + Hue, or is there value in integrating Google + SmartThings for more advanced automation?

After some experimentation, I realized that controlling lights through Google Home and SmartThings simultaneously isn’t ideal, as it can interfere with Hue Scenes. However, I found a workaround by using SmartThings for sensor-based automation and Google Home for voice control. This approach keeps things smooth and ensures I don’t lose access to Hue Scenes.

One thing I’d love to explore further is how to integrate SmartThings more deeply with Google Assistant without duplicating devices. If anyone has tips or best practices, I’d love to hear them!

Overall, my smart home setup is working beautifully, and I’m excited to continue refining it. It’s amazing how these devices and platforms can work together to create a truly connected home.
