Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent project where I successfully installed Hass.io on an external USB drive and set up a smart camera system using old smartphones. It’s been a fun and educational experience!
First, regarding the Hass.io installation, I followed the Raspberry Pi 3’s USB boot process. While it required some initial setup from an SD card, it’s now running smoothly without one. I found the process a bit involved, but the community support on forums like this one was invaluable. I’m now considering suggesting a Hass.io build optimized for USB booting to simplify the process for others.
Next, I transformed some old smartphones with broken screens into IP cameras using the PAS Webcam app. The app allows extensive customization, including motion detection. I integrated these cameras into my Homematic system by setting up system variables that trigger alerts or send snapshots when motion is detected. It’s a great way to repurpose old devices and enhance home security!
I’m curious if anyone else has tried similar setups or has tips for improving automation with these cameras. Also, if anyone has experience with integrating multiple brands or devices, I’d love to hear your strategies for seamless operation.
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your insights!
