Integrating Hi-Fi Equipment with Smart Home Automation

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into integrating my Hi-Fi setup with my smart home ecosystem, and I wanted to share my journey and some tips I’ve picked up along the way. Curious about how to automate your stereo system? Let me walk you through my experience!

So, I have this preamplifier with a TRIGGER OUT port that outputs 12V when powered on. My goal was to use this signal to control three other devices in my stereo setup via Shelly smart plugs. The idea is pretty straightforward: when the preamp turns on, it sends a 12V signal, which should trigger the Shelly plugs to power up my other components. And vice versa when the preamp turns off.

Initially, I wasn’t sure if the Shelly 1 relays I had lying around would work for this. After some research and testing, I discovered that yes, they can! By configuring the Shelly relays to detect the 12V trigger, I was able to create a seamless automation. Now, when I hit the power button on my preamp, everything else in my setup comes to life without any manual intervention. Pretty cool!

I also stumbled upon a few temperature monitoring scripts using Shelly’s add-on modules. If anyone is looking to automate their garage door or monitor temperature-sensitive areas, I’d be happy to share the scripts I’ve tweaked. It’s all about making your smart home work smarter for you!

One thing I’ve learned is the importance of community support. When I ran into issues with my initial setup, reaching out to forums like this one was invaluable. Whether it’s troubleshooting hardware compatibility or fine-tuning scripts, there’s always someone willing to help.

If you’re working on a similar project or have questions about integrating legacy audio equipment with modern smart home tech, feel free to drop a comment. I’d love to hear about your experiences too! Let’s keep the conversation going and make our homes a little smarter together.
