Integrating Hubitat and Z-Way for Enhanced Z-Wave Management

I recently discovered the amazing capabilities of Z-Wave device management through Z-Way, and I wanted to share my experience of integrating it with Hubitat. This integration allows me to leverage the powerful tools of Z-Way while still using Hubitat for my smart home automation needs. Here’s how I did it:

  1. Including the UZB Z-Wave as a Secondary Device: I started by adding the UZB Z-Wave device into my Hubitat network as a secondary device. This step was crucial for ensuring seamless communication between Hubitat and Z-Way.

  2. Configuring Z-Way: Next, I installed and configured Z-Way using the UZB key I obtained from Hubitat. This setup allowed me to access all my Z-Wave devices through Z-Way’s interface, even though they were originally part of my Hubitat ecosystem.

  3. Exporting Network Updates: To synchronize the devices, I navigated to the Z-Way export UI and clicked on Request network updates from SUC/SIS. This action initiated the process of updating Z-Way with the latest information from my Hubitat network.

  4. Renaming Devices: Once all devices appeared in Z-Way, I took the time to rename them to match my Hubitat naming conventions. This step made it easier to manage and debug my devices across both platforms.

  5. Enjoying the Benefits: The integration has been incredibly helpful, especially in identifying and resolving issues with ghost nodes that persisted in my Hubitat network despite multiple repairs and restarts. Z-Way’s advanced tools have provided deeper insights into my Z-Wave network, enhancing my overall smart home experience.

I’m still exploring all the possibilities this integration offers, but I can already see the significant improvements it brings to managing my Z-Wave devices. If you’re looking to enhance your Z-Wave management without diving into code development, I highly recommend giving this integration a try!
